Night Out at the Utah State Fair

We have finalized the information for the Utah State Fair. Each blind or visually impaired individual may bring one sighted guide. The cost is $1 for yourself and $1 for your sighted guide. If you bring other family members or friends, they will need to pay the regular admission price. On Monday, September 13, we will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the north-west gate (Gate B), which is inside the north parking lot. We must enter as a group at 6:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, September 15, we will begin congregating at the same location at 9:30 a.m. and enter at 10 a.m. From 10 a.m. to 12:00 noon there will be free carnival rides, free snacks at the Sugar Shack on the midway, and the Barnyard Friends will be open. At 11:00 a.m. Survival of the Slowest Exhibit will be open along with the Magic Show by Scott Chamberlain at the South Plaza Stage.

Did Someone Say a Christmas Party This Year?

By Sandy England

Yes, we will have a Christmas party this year. Not too much information yet. We want to get the news out and get ready for this party!

When: December 4th

Time: to be announced

Place: Division of Services for the Blind

If you would like to help, please call me.

We are in the planning stages of this, thinking of a bake sale and craft tables for those who are blind and would like to sell their goods. Please let me know if you want a table this year for your craft items. We might even have a silent auction fund raiser during this party. More details to come later.

This year we will be offering Christmas pictures. Plan to bring your family and your kids and have a wonderful Christmas picture done by Kate Schofield Balzly of Schofield Photography (Leslie’s daughter). Watch for more information on this in the October newsletter. We want to make this a great party, so if you know of someone who would enjoy this let them know.

We look forward to seeing you at this event. Watch for more detailed information in the October newsletter.

For questions or to volunteer call or text me, Sandy England, at 801-634-8002.

Get Acquainted with the Utah Council of the Blind

Mark your calendars—November 6th we will be doing our first ever Zoom activity. This educational event will present a brief history and describe the programs of our organization. The officers and directors will be introduced, and there will be time for questions and answers after the presentations. Plan to join us for this informational activity.

Don't Forget the UCB Annual Business Meeting

Remember that the Annual Business Meeting of the Utah Council of the Blind will be held at the Division of Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 250 N 1950 W, Salt Lake City, UT at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021. Reservations are required so that we can have enough food for everyone. Please call the Utah Connection at 801-299-0670 or email ucb.board@gmail.com with your name, the names of others in your party, and your telephone number no later than Monday, September 13th. When you make your reservation, please indicate whether or not each person in your party is a member of the UCB, whether you use large print or braille, any dietary restrictions you or a member of your party may have, and if you will need a listening device or any other accommodation.

This year, for the first time, we are going to attempt to make the meeting available to members in all areas of the state via Zoom, so if you would like to participate in this manner, please make a reservation as indicated above, but let us know that you will be participating via Zoom and clearly give us your name, email address, mailing address, and phone number so that we can send you the appropriate link. Unfortunately, we do not have a way to allow you to participate in the voting process through the Zoom connection, so we will automatically mail you an absentee ballot to use for casting your votes.

Any member wishing to vote by absentee ballot may do so by calling the Utah Connection or emailing us at ucb.board@gmail.com. In order to be counted, your ballot must be returned to:

UCB

PO Box 1415

Bountiful UT 84011-1415

The completed ballot must arrive no later than September 11, 2021.

Membership Verification: In order to vote at the annual business meeting a member's dues for 2021 must be paid no later than September 11, 2021. If you have any questions about your membership status, please contact our Membership Chair, Aunilie Hathaway at (801) 244-5505 or via e-mail at ucb.board@gmail.com.
